On March 12, 2009, the National Quality Center (NQC) hosted a technical assistance webconference on facilitating effective quality improvement meetings and teams to improve the productivity of quality efforts. The call was lead by guest speaker, Jeff Hanan, from Howick Associates, who also shared two chapters of the Howick Associates book, The New Compleat Facilitator: A Handbook for Facilitators, with participants. Chapters entitled “Managing Meetings” and “Dealing with Difficult Behaviors” can be downloaded here along with the slides and audio recording.

 

Learning objectives:

  • Produce better outcomes from the time spent in meetings
  • Understand the importance of planning and designing effective meetings
  • Understand the role of the team leader vs. the facilitator, and how to balance the two
  • Balance and increase participation in meetings
  • Prevent and manage challenging behavior in meetings
  • Increase accountability and follow-through on action items
